The American Museum of Natural History has turned its pilot project of digitizing 1,000 images to a long-term effort to increase access to a diverse collection of photographs, illustrations and other media held in their Library.
The museum's Digital Special Collections now provides online access to more than 10,000 images and plans on increasing the number of collections available, potentially digitizing over 1 million records. The Digital Special Collections will provide "a rare glimpse behind the curtain into a world usually seen only by researchers and Museum staff,” says Tom Baione, the Director of the museum.
Notable collections include the Jesup North Pacific Expedition, Lumholtz Expedition to Mexico, and the Julian Dimock Collection. Check out some of our favorites from the collections and visit the site to see them all.
